Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing ones’ attention to experiences occurring in the present moment and doing so without judgement.

Kabat-Zinn describes it as paying attention to the present moment as if your life depends on it with curiosity, compassion and non-judgement.

Valuable as a tool for enhancing mental and physical health, mental focus, sleep quality, memory, leadership capacities and resilience as well as reducing chronic pain and improving sexual health where problems exist and improving pleasure where problems don’t exist.

Many people suffering sexual dysfunctions (SD) are anxious, highly driven and ambitious, perfectionistic.

They are often people who like to feel in control and their sexual health suffers

They are often disconnected from their bodies and their sensory system and they struggle to relax.

Mindfulness practice enables a heightened state of awareness: of the body, the sensory system and also of thoughts, attitudes, fears and inner thinking pathways and patterns.

We teach patients to meet their pain and their challenge with inquiry and interest and suspended judgement. To explore it without shame or conviction, just with fascination.

To explore the pain of dysfunction itself and the emotions it generates.

The reactive response to the problem often includes fear, shame, despair and hopelessness. These experiences add to the allostatic load already being experienced. Reactivity and an upregulated nervous system may be the result. This can be unravelled and the course will outline how.

A mindfulness  approach gives the patient self-efficacy and confidence, putting the controls in their hands.

It gives the patient the awareness of what is happening in their body, moment by moment and returns the controls to their hands, so they can relax, contract or do a combination, at will.

This course includes a 2 hr lecture video, course notes, a written article and MCQ’s for accreditation.
